Lumbago simply means “pain in the lower back region” which might be acute (spontaneous, lasting for less than 6 weeks), sub-acute (long lasting from 6 weeks to a few months) or chronic (if present for more than 3 months). There may be gentle to moderate irritation in the lower back region, which may lead to pain and rigidity in the next days. It gets resolved with the correct treatment and management, but sometimes it’s prolonged and affects the quality of life very badly. It’s noticeable in individuals of every age group and race but particularly affects adults more as they are more active physically and later, in elder people.
About 80% of the world people experiences this problem. Pain – In the low area of the back, which may radiate to the gluteal (buttock) region, back again of thigh or even to the lower leg. In most of the full cases pain gets worsened with movement. Motion limitations – Especially backward twisting ahead and. Stiffness – In para-spinal (next to spine) muscles causing discomfort and movement restrictions.
Numbness in the back, buttocks or in the calf. Tingling sensations – In the trunk region, buttocks, or in the knee. Postural changes – With abnormal spinal curves. This postural anomaly occurs due to body’s instinctive behavior to pain. 1. If the pain is followed by numbness and/or tingling feelings which are radiating into the leg and/or feet, it is named “Sciatica”. This happens due to sciatic nerve discomfort, which is passing all the way from lower back again to the feet. 2. These conditions are uncommon but may come with severe lumbago: weakness in the hip and legs, weight loss, bloating in previously listed areas, urine problems and/or fever.

There are numerous ways to treat lower back again pain. Unfortunately the traditional widely used methods treat only symptoms for temporary relief; they don’t really actually work on the real cause of the pain. Pharmaceutical prescriptions (painkillers like paracetamol, NSAIDs, steroids etc. and/or muscle relaxants) to alleviate pain. Chiropractic or Osteopathic treatments like spinal manipulations.
Using company and flat work surface for lying down/sleeping. Avoidance of actions which might raise the pain level bending and raising heavy lots especially. Acupuncture and acupressure techniques are also helpful. Posture adjustment and ergonomic modifications to avoid extra stress on the spine. Massage is also useful in some cases. The simplest way to treat spondylosis; trapped nerve (sciatica); muscle and/or joint pain; slipped disc;, and back or neck pain is the “McKenzie Approach to Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT)”.
As recently in Oct 2014 study research conducted on 271 patients in Kosovo found MDT more useful and effective than other electro-physical agencies (EPAs). The method has fast acting and long-lasting effects on patients’ health. Moreover, it does not have any relative side effects that may happen with other treatment strategies. This is because, this method helps a medical doctor to discover what is the exact cause of your problem and allows to use the 1-2-exercise patterns which are best ideal for your specific condition. Initially, a detailed history of the person is taken and the patient is examined functionally and mechanically by documenting the body’s response to different movements and positions.
The treatment strategy is then prepared on the basis of findings recorded and the person is advised to maintain a certain posture and perform specific exercises at home and office. Everyone is suggested to follow some interventional guidelines to avoid future problems as well. This prevention plan is based on your symptomatic behavior that was recorded previously on your first assessment. That is very important because back again pain tends to recur after an extended duration of time so it’s very important to the patient to be educated in how to prevent future pain shows.
